Traditional print media, newspaper and homes magazine ads are simply no longer cost effective in today's high-tech world.  The NAR (National Association Of Realtors) is the largest trade organization in America, and they perform an extensive annual survey of homebuyers across the country and by region.  NAR's yearly report has consistently shown that less than 2% of all homes sold in the U.S. were purchased by Buyers who found their property in a "Homes" magazine advertisement.

75% of all homes sold in the U.S. today are sold through the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS), most often by another agent who located the property in the "Active" listing database for their Buyer client.  The Internet and MLS combined account for more than 85% of all home sales in the country.  Buyers are using the Internet for their home search now more than ever before, the most recent NAR Home Buying survey indicates that 86% of all homebuyers in the U.S. start their search on the Internet.  It obviously makes a great deal of sense (strategically speaking) to utilize marketing methods and tools that target other real estate professionals as well as the most popular real estate websites being viewed on the Internet.  Marketing dollars spent in these two proven areas of exposure are going to be much more productive than those spent on traditional print media advertising.
